Bio

Alison Young, with her cowgirl spirit and rock n’ roll background, brings a bushel of optimism, a ton of fun, and a seed of sassiness to her music.

At 13 years old, rock n’ roll saved her life, keeping Alison sane while surrounded by people she had little in common with. In the 80s, Alison played drums for The Boom, a quirky new wave band, and played guitar and sang in pop-hardcore punk rockers, the NOT, which opened for the likes of The Minutemen, Husker Du, and The Damned.

In 1986 Alison traded in the open road for a teaching gig, and ever since has been working in high schools, teaching history. For the next two decades, she kept up with her music by jamming with students and friends, and playing for pleasure. Despite choosing a different path, Alison’s punk and rock n’ roll background never truly left her, and it shows up clearly in her original interpretation of country music.

In 2015 Alison’s life was once again saved by music, this time contemporary country music. She found solace in the emotive independence of recording artists such as Miranda Lambert, Chris Cagle, and Kenny Chesney. And, wanting to pass that feeling on, Alison picked up her guitar and began writing music again. She released her first album, Country Dreamin’ in 2017, and a year later released Trans-American Country. Since 2017 Alison has played her energetic and distinctive brand of country music all across the United States, including venues in Oakland, Dallas, Nashville, and Boston, and look out; she may soon to be coming to a venue near you.
